Kudos to AidSpeak for this piece on expats and locals in the development industry. Neither expats nor locals have the golden key to eradicate poverty. If either did, we’d eradicated poverty by now. Too often expats are viewed as all-knowing (both by themselves and the locals) and too often that turns sour and then locals are considered the only ones who could possibly understand a situation (again by both groups). Aid is not black and white, and the colour of your skin or the country your passport is from should not determine who you are and what you can do, be it in the field of development or otherwise.
